Mildred Riehle, 92, of Spillville, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2017, at Accura Healthcare in Cresco. Mass of Christian Burial was at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville, with Rev. Donald Hawes officiating. Organist was Jeanette Dietzenbach. Cantor was Ethan Adams. Hymns were “Here I am, Lord,” “On Eagle’s Wings,” “Amazing Grace,” “Goin’ Home” and “Silent Night.” Lector was Chase Riehle. Eucharistic ministers were Pat Lynch, Jim Barta and Wayne Wiest. Offertory gift bearers were Wendy Bohr and Tara Bigler. Casket bearers were all of Mildred’s grandchildren. Interment was at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Cemetery in Spillville. Arrangements were handled by Schluter-Balik Funeral Home, Decorah.
Mildred Marie (Schwade) Riehle was born Jan. 26, 1925, to William and Ludmila (Taylor) Schwade on the family farm west of Spillville. She attended St. Wenceslaus Catholic School in Spillville. Mildred married Raymond Riehle May 4, 1943, at the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. Together they farmed one and a half miles southwest of Spillville. Ray and Mildred moved off the farm in 1973 and into Spillville. Mildred enjoyed dancing, playing cards, golfing, embroidery and making quilts for her grandchildren. She was well known for her kolache and cookie baking and even won a few awards for them. She was president and vice president of the Ladies Guild, vice president of the South Winn. Country Club and also was a lector and eucharistic minister at church.
Mildred is survived by her son, Roger, and wife Carol Riehle, Fort Atkinson; eight grandchildren: Patrick (Laurie) Riehle, Jamie (Cheryl) Riehle, Wendy (Jeff) Bohr, Shane (Candi) Riehle, Brady (Dawn) Riehle, Tara (Rick) Bigler, Chase (Breelyn) Riehle and Mason (Missy) Riehle; great-grandchildren: Ryan, Alyssa, Bryanna, Austyn and Jayson Riehle; Ashley (Brett) Tangen, Tyler and Kylee Riehle; Bryson, Jenna and Loren Bohr; Tiffany, Chandler and Brendon Riehle; Danielle, Dillon Aiden and Logan Riehle; Cody and Tanner Bigler; Cashton and Keaton Riehle, Blake and Carter Riehle; great-great grandson, Ryker Tangen; brother, Ermin Schwade, Gahanna, Ohio; sisters, Doris (Leonard) Macal, Cresco and Rita Kuehner, St. Lucas; sisters-in-law, Helen Riehle, Spillville and Dolores Schwade, Cresco; along with many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and -nephews.
Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, Dec. 19, 2016; one son, Gary Riehle, in 1964; her parents, William and Ludmila (Taylor) Schwade; brothers, Fredolin “Lynn” Schwade and Eugene (Joan) Schwade; sister, Lauretta (Paul) Barta; in-laws: Earl Riehle, Marcella (Tony) Still, Mary Schwade and Leonard Kuehner; father and mother-in-law, George A. and Mathilda (Ptachek) Riehle.
