Nathan Dawley

Nathan Dawley, 59, of rural Decorah died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2017, at Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah of an apparent heart attack. Services were at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 10, at Burr Oak Lutheran Church in Burr Oak, with Rev. O. Paul Haugen officiating. Special music was provided by Stephen and Emily Curtis, Ashley and Micah Curtis and Sara Kocourek. Casket bearers were Jonathan Curtis, James Curtis, Justin Curtis, Stephen Curtis, Luke Wermager, and Donald Reinertson. Honorary casket bearers were Joel Schnitzler, Jim Schnitzler, Brian Christopher, Jeff Dawley, Mike Dawley, Wayne Dawley, Bob Patterson, Troy Greenslade, Timon Christopher, Dick Numedahl, Gary Schnitzler and Mike Whalen. Interment was at Burr Oak Cemetery, in Burr Oak. Arrangements were handled by Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah.

Nathan Arthur Dawley was born Aug. 17, 1958, the son of Jesse and Cecelia (Baker) Dawley in Decorah. He attended North Winneshiek Schools. After finishing school, Nathan started farming. He also logged and did various construction jobs. Nathan worked for Wicks Construction and the Winneshiek County Coop. He owned and operated Dawley Trucking for the last 10 years, while continuing to farm through it all. Nathan loved working with his Percheron horses and teaching his children and many friends how to drive horses. He also enjoyed going on trail rides with groups of people. Nathan also loved working with his honeybees and bee keeping with his Amish friends. He was a coon hunter and had many great stories of his adventures with friends. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, teaching his daughter Lydia how to drive and his son Zachery about horses. He was most proud of their accomplishments and enjoyed telling people about them. He enjoyed visiting with his friends and neighbors. Nathan will be greatly missed by many.

Nathan is survived by his wife, Jacque; children, Zachery and Lydia; sisters: Donna (Dave) Reinertson, Nampa, Idaho; Lona (Ken) Curtis, Nampa, Idaho; Lois (David) Wermager, Melbourne; LaVonne (Brian) Kocourek, Oregonia, Ohio; brother, Tim Dawley, Decorah; father and mother-in-law, Cleon and LaDonna Brenno, Canton, Minn.; sisters-in-law: JoLeeta (Ernest) Recio, Canton, Minn.; Cheryse Brenno, Rochester, Minn.; Kelly (Scott) Carpenter, Rochester, Minn.; Rochelle (Neil) Middendorf, Canton, Minn.; Tricia (Craig) Henry, Canton, Minn.; brothers-in-law: Joel Sloan, Mabel, Minn. and Keith Curtis, Nampa, Idaho; along with many nieces and nephews.

Nathan was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Cecelia (Baker) Dawley; brother, Herbert Dawley; sister, Cordelia Curtis; nephews, Daniel and Mathew Reinertson; niece, Rachel Curtis.
