Neil Daniels

Neil Daniels, 75, of Fort Dodge, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2016, at Trinity Regional Medical Center. The memorial service is at 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 14, at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel. Visitation will follow the service from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

Neil was born in Ridgeway Jan. 3, 1941, to Raymond and Dagmar (Langaas) Daniels. He graduated from Decorah High School in 1959, and went on to enlist in the US Army. He worked as a heavy equipment operator until his deployment during the Vietnam War serving with the US Navy. He was united in marriage to Janice Thune in 1971 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, and of this union were born four children. He then served in the US Air Force until retiring in 1984. His civilian career transitioned to a semi-truck driver working for Smithway Motor Xpress until his retirement. He loved spending time with his family and friends outdoors going hunting and fishing. He was an active member of numerous outdoor organizations and clubs. There wasn’t a day that went by that he didn’t live life to the fullest.

Neil is survived by his daughter, Beth (Jeff) Harms of Algona; and their children, Alex and Casey Harms; his son Phil Daniels of Osage; his daughter Natalie (Grant) Terkildsen of Alpena, S.D. and their children Graceana, Breanna and Nelson Terkildsen; his sister Lisa (Joe) Klegseth of Decorah; his brother-in-law Marty Holten of Cedar Rapids; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his son Ernie Daniels; his parents Raymond and Dagmar and his sister Lorna Holton.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
