Norma Halse

Norma A. Halse, 92, of Decorah, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, May 10, 2022 after a long illness. 

Norma loved to garden, play cards, cook, and spend time with family, neighbors, and friends.Born May 6, 1930, in Winneshiek County, Iowa, to Luther and Julia Groth. She graduated from Decorah Iowa School. She married the love of her life, Donald Halse, on April 2, 1950, at Highland Lutheran Church.  They lived and farmed for 47 years in Highland Township.  After retiring from farming, they moved to Decorah and adjusted to city living.

She is survived by her daughters: Darla Halse, Lorie Howe (Gene), and Karen Urbick; seven grandchildren: Alleyne, Joseph, Bryant (Amy), Jonathan (Michelle), Jesse, Corey (Sally), and Kali (Tim); six great-grandchildren: Abby, Zoey, Tula, Benton, Melody and Miles; brother-in-law Duane (Shirley) Groth, and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, two brothers, one sister and two sons-in-laws.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 15, 2022, at the Highland Lutheran Church in rural Decorah with the Rev. Waldemar Gies officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Lunch will be served in the church basement immediately following. Memorials are suggested to the Highland Lutheran Church or Highland Cemetery Fund. The Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel is assisting with arrangements. Special thanks to the amazing staff from the Winneshiek Medical Center Hospice for their kindness and support for mom and our family; we are so grateful.
