Pam Haugen

Pam Haugen, 55, of Waterloo, formerly of Decorah, died Friday, March 20, 2015, at the Harmony House in Waterloo. Services were at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 25, at Decorah Lutheran Church, with Rev. Dave Sorenson and Rev. Bryan Robertson officiating. Organist was Kathy Murray. Soloist was Hub Christen (“The Lord’s Prayer”). Hymns were “On Eagle’s Wings” and “Go Rest High on that Mountain.” Casket bearers were Wade Casterton, Ryan Jones, DJ Henry, Ryan Henry, Carl Naley and Dan Henry. Interment is at Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah, at a later date. Arrangements were handled by Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, Decorah.

Pamela Rae Haugen was born Dec. 8, 1959, the daughter of Raymond and Theola (Bixby) Haugen in Chicago, Ill. Pam attended and graduated from Decorah High School in 1978. While in high school Pam was in the Color Guard and worked at A&W Restaurant. After high school, she worked for Happy Joe’s, Mabe’s Pizza, Ronnie’s Café and for Rockwell Collins. She was united in marriage to Mark Schroeder in 1982, and they later divorced. Pam was a wonderful mother to her son; they enjoyed a lot of things together. Pam and Michael both suffered from Myotonic Dystrophy. Pam enjoyed Elvis, playing cards, her soap operas, playing Facebook games, shopping and on-line shopping. She loved her nieces and nephews and always was happy when they came to visit her. Pam also volunteered at Northeast Iowa Community Action when she could. Pam was a member of the Decorah Lutheran Church.

Pam is survived by her mother, Theola Haugen and her step-father, Gerald Haugen, Decorah; two sisters, Terry (friend, Carl Naley) Casterton, Decorah and Karen (Dan) Henry, Ridgeway; two nieces, Amanda (fiancé Ryan Jones) Casterton and MaryBeth Henry; three nephews: Wade (friend, Andrea Quam) Casterton, Ryan (Kelsey) Henry and D J Henry; three great-nieces: Alaina, Jessa and Malia; one step-sister, Heidi (Bo) Vizcaino, Big Spring, Texas; three step-brothers: Mark (Edna) Haugen, Jacksonville, Fla.; Gary (Wanda) Haugen, Miami, Fla.; and Jeff (Elizabeth) Haugen, Jacksonville, Fla.; along with many aunts, uncles and cousins.  

Pam was preceded in death by her son, Michael Raymond Schroeder, in 2009; her father, Raymond Haugen, in 1981; her grandparents: Edgar and Lilly (Moe) Haugen and Percy and Loretta (Grover) Bixby.
