Richard C. Bruening, 73, of Cresco, died on Friday, July 5, 2024 at his home.

Richard Charles Bruening was born on May 22, 1951, son of Vincent and Evelyn (Schultz) Bruening in Cresco, Iowa.  He was a graduate from Crestwood High School.  On May 1, 1976, Richard married Diane Myers at the Assumption Catholic Church in Cresco.  After Assumption closed Richard became a member of Notre Dame Catholic Church in Cresco.  Richard practiced his faith by attending church regularly, serving as a gift bearer, and greeting people as they came in for the service.  He was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Farm Bureau, and AARP member.  Richard was an avid NASCAR fan with Dale Ernhardt being his favorite driver.  He would stack his TVs on top of each other if a race and sporting event were airing at the same time.  When Richard’s health was better, he liked to go to the races at the Mighty Howard County fairgrounds, go fishing, and vacations with his family.  He enjoyed puzzle books, attending car shows, and keeping track of the latest farming news.

Richard is survived by his daughter Melanie Bruening of Cedar Rapids; friend William “Al” Levis of Cedar Rapids; step-son Jon Myers of Dubuque; son-in-law Dennis (Susan) Zweibohmer of Ionia; three grandchildren Katelyn Zweibohmer of Charles City, Gabriel Zweibohmer of New Hampton, and Kenneth Zweibohmer of Ionia; brother Doug Bruening of Cresco; mother-in-law Anna Myers of Cresco; and brothers-in-law Dave (Beverly Blaess) Myers of Ridgeway and Bill Winsell of Decorah.
