Robert Joseph Schneberger was born on April 18, 1926, the son of Hubert and Albina (Huinker) Schneberger on the family farm near Festina, Iowa. Bob attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in Festina. He worked for area farmers prior to being inducted into the US Army to serve during the Korean War from 1950-52. Bob met his future wife, Anna May at a baseball game while she visited relatives in Festina. They were married on June 4, 1952, at the Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Austin, Minn.; their wedding dance was held at the Inwood in Spillville. They lived in and around the Festina area, where they raised their family of eight children. Bob started hauling can milk in 1959 to the Waucoma Creamery. In 1961, he bought his own truck and route, later hauling for AMPI in Festina. Over the years, he hauled cans, then drove bulk truck, and eventually drove AMPI semi-truck to Rochester, MN, retiring in December, 1988. Throughout his life, Bob was very proud of his family and their activities. He loved playing and watching baseball, especially the White Soxs; enjoyed his large garden and growing Anna May’s “weeds” (better known as flowers); reading books, fishing, hunting, bowling, and playing cards with his friends and family.
Bob was a member of Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church, the Calmar Halverson – Giesen American Legion Post #266, the West Union VFW 3771, and Am. Vets IA 3399.
