Robert G. Headington, 85, of Decorah, passed away Monday morning, Dec. 3, 2018, at Good Samaritan Society in West Union. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 7, at Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church in rural Decorah, with Rev. Stacey Nalean – Carlson officiating. Burial is in Canoe Ridge Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation begins at 10 a.m. Friday, one hour before the service, at Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church. Casket bearers are his grandsons: Matthew Knudsen, Caleb Buchanan, Tyler Buchanan, Connor Schueller, Ethan Harrington, Dustin Harrington and Brandon Headington. Robert Glen Headington was born Oct. 20, 1933, in Decorah, the son of Glen and Anna (Grindeland) Headington. He attended Decorah High School and later in life obtained his GED.
Bob was united in marriage to Joyce Martin Aug. 27, 1961, at Zion Evangelical Church in Waukon.
He farmed on his family farm in Pleasant Township for many years. He then worked for Nordness Creamery, Coca Cola, managed an apartment building and had his own vending machine business. He enjoyed people and was very social, he liked to make people laugh and joked around with his family, country music and attending music events, playing the harmonica, collecting antiques and going on trips out west. He was member of Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Bob is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joyce; four children: Laura (Imran) Currah of Topeka, Kan., Larry Headington of Calmar, Lisa (Chad) Schueller of Wilton, Wis., and Linette “Linny” (Rex) Johanningmeier of Monona; 12 grandchildren: Victoria, Caitlin and Sara Riley, Matthew Knudsen, Caleb and Tyler Buchanan, Hailey and Connor Schueller, Ethan (Kari) Harrington, Dustin (Karissa) Harrington, Brandon and Brooke Headington; six great-grandchildren: Holly and Lane Harrington, Kaydence Harrington, Jonah Larkin, Scarlett Buchanan and Alex Clausen; one brother, Dale (Sandy) Headington, of Decorah; sisters-in-law: Bonnie Headington, Elaine Headington, Carol Martin, Peggy (Walter) Martin, Sharon (Randy) Dishinger; brothers-in-law Kermit Martin and Galerd Ehde; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter; and two brothers, Bill and Duane Headington.
