Ronald Buchheit, age 80, of Festina, died Friday, Dec. 25, 2020, at the Patty Elwood Center in Cresco.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2020, at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Festina, with Rev. Robert Gross officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday at the Church. Everyone attending will be required to wear a mask and practice social distancing.
Ronald Francis Buchheit was born on July 8, 1940 the son of Lawrence and Johanna (Huinker) Buchheit in the house where he was raised. He attended St. Mary’s school in Festina and Calmar High School where he enjoyed sports and drama. After graduation, he served in the United States Army. On Oct. 22, 1960 he married his soul mate and love of his life: Bernice B. Huber. He was a life member of Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church. Ron and Bernice farmed west of Festina until Bernice passed away on Dec. 31, 2007. Ron worked for Carnation Breeding Service for four years. He had many enjoyments in life of which farming was number one. His hobbies were many: coon hunting, deer hunting and golfing were near the top. He also enjoyed going to Nebraska to check on his cattle and watching his racing greyhounds brought him much satisfaction. He was very active in local organizations and served on many boards. Ron was Co-chairman on the committee to build the new parish center. His love for his church and the town of Festina was very evident in all he did.
Ronald is survived by two sisters: Dianne (Philip) French, Calmar, and Anna Mae Bergan Davis; a brother: Kevin (Nancy) Buchheit, Fort Atkinson; sisters-in-law: Irene (Jim) Leuenberger, Shawno, Wis., and Karen Straw, Lawler; brother-in-law: Dave (Cy) Huber, Minneapolis, Minn.; along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Bernice (Huber) Buchheit. Parents: Lawrence and Johanna (Huinker) Buchheit. Father and mother-in-law: Philip and Eleanor (Kuennen) Huber. Brothers-in-law: Eldon Bergan, Donald Davis and Ed Shaw. Long-time friend: Sandy Hove.
