Sandra Rae Ruckhaber, 80, of Luana, died Tuesday, April 4, 2017, at her home. Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 11, at Forest Mills United Methodist Church, rural Postville, with Pastor Kim Gates as the officiant. Burial follows at Smithfield Cemetery, rural Allamakee County. Visitation was from 4 to 8 p.m., Monday, April 10, at Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Postville. There also is a one-hour visitation before services at the church Tuesday.
Sandra Rae was born Dec. 21, 1936, in Kansas City, Mo. She was adopted by John and Willie Kunz. Sandy was united in marriage with John Cleon Ruckhaber Oct. 28, 1961, at United Methodist Church, Monona. Sandy loved horses and teaching others to ride. She was very active in Strides in Decorah, a physical, mental and spiritual program with horses. Her passion was to educate people about their horses. Sandy was inducted into the Iowa Volunteer Hall of Fame for 4H. She was very active in the Forest Mills United Methodist Church. Being a 50-year cancer survivor, she was also active with the Relay For Life Event. She enjoyed doing leatherwork at craftshows.
Sandy is survived by her daughter, Suzanne Wright of Granbury, Texas; two grandchildren, Melissa (Hayden) Martin of Granbury Texas and Colter Wright of Granbury, Texas; one great-grandson, Ryder Martin; She had many many special friends.
Sandy was preceded in death by her husband, James Ruckhaber, Sept. 1, 2008; parents, John and Willie Kunz; and a sister in infancy.
