Shirley Wiedeman

Shirley Wiedeman, 74, of Cresco, passed away Monday, Aug. 8, 2016.  Funeral services are Friday, Aug. 12, at 11 a.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cresco. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday evening at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco, as well as one hour prior to services at the church. Burial is in Oak Lawn Cemetery in Cresco.

Shirley was born April 23, 1942, in Lime Springs, to Carl and Myrtle (Goetsch) Nise. She attended grade school in Lime Springs, and graduated in 1961 from Crestwood High School Cresco,. Following high school she moved to Waterloo and attended Gates Business College. After college she stayed in Waterloo and worked at International Harvestor as a bookkeeper. She was united in marriage to John Wiedeman Nov. 23, 1963. They moved to Ames, where John attended college and she got a job in Nevada, Ia. at the courthouse. When John finished college they returned to the Cresco area in 1965 and engaged in farming. In 1972 Shirley took a job as a teller at Farmers State Bank in Ridgeway, which later turned into Cresco Union Savings Bank. She worked there for 35 years, where she loved working with the Ridgeway community. She retired from CUSB as a loan officer in 2007. After a short time Shirley missed the interaction with the public and decided retirement was not for her so she started working a part-time job at Kwik Star in Cresco. Shirley was a fun-loving person and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She always had a story to tell and always could make you laugh. You might even have seen her once in a while with a friend off on a road trip to visit a nearby casino or out for lunch.

Shirley was in an accident April 12 of this year and after a courageous four- month battle she passed away at St. Lukes Hospital in Cedar Rapids, with her family at her side.

She is survived by her husband John Wiedeman of Cresco; her son Bruce (Tammy) Wiedeman; her daughter Jean (David) Tweten; Grandchildren Jenny (Chet) Wilson; Tracy Tweten; Miranda Tweten; Chelsi Majewski; Autumn Majewski; Great Grandchildren Larren, Libby, Arianna, and Braxton and a brother, Wilford Nise. Shirley is further survived by John’s siblings: Helen (Walt) Potter, Dean (Marian) Wiedeman and Miriam McIntyre.
