Theresa Anna Myers was born Aug. 27, 1931, in Festina, the daughter of John and Augusta (Hartman) Gossling. She received her education at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Festina. After graduating from the eighth grade, Theresa moved to Dubuque and worked as a cook for the seminarians at Loras College. She married Alvin F. Myers April 30, 1952, at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Festina. To this union six children were born. The couple farmed near Jackson Junction for eight years and later purchased their farm east of New Hampton in 1960. Theresa joyfully raised her family and helped on the farm. She loved her garden and the bounty it provided. Education was important to Theresa and in the 1970s she proudly went back and received her G.E.D. For many years, Theresa was a funeral luncheon cook at St. Mary’s Church in New Hampton, a 4H leader and a cake decorator for weddings and graduations. Theresa was a charter member of ‘Putter-Pals’, a neighborhood ladies’ group. In their later years, the couple enjoyed taking several bus trips together throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. In September 2010, she became a resident at Traditions in West Union due to her failing health. Theresa will be remembered for her strong faith, kind nature and her positive outlook on life.
