Tina Mae Langreck was born Feb. 3,1977, to Ron and Bev (Benson) Michels in Oelwein.
She graduated from North Winneshiek High School and then attended Northeast Iowa Community College in Calmar, where she earned her administrative assistant degree.
In 2001, she met Joe Langreck, and the two hit it off immediately. They began dating and on July 24, 2004, Tina and Joe exchanged vows at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Lawler. The couple welcomed two children — Luke on Nov. 1, 2005, and Lance on Feb. 1, 2007.
She loved her boys, and she was always there for them. She was a good cook and loved to sew, especially blankets that she always made with tender, loving care.
The young family suffered tragedy Jan. 6, 2011, when Lance died of complications from Myotonic Dystrophy, and Tina was tested for the disease and learned she also had the form of Muscular Dystrophy.
She faced the disease with courage and an unflappable attitude, even after having to undergo cataract surgery, receiving a pacemaker, and using a C-Pap machine. She never complained; instead, she worked to make the lives of her husband, her son, and her community better.
Tina was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church and the American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 279, where she was one of the keys to making the Lawler Sons of American Legion’s annual Stars and Stripes Spectacular such a magnificent event.
She and Joe loved to take Luke on vacation, and one of their favorites was a trek to the Black Hills in South Dakota, where Tina had a busy yet organized itinerary for her boys.
This past December, Tina was hired by VGM after it set up an office in Decorah, and she was excited to be back at a company she had worked for years ago.
Tina was a kind, funny and passionate person who would do anything for anyone, and she especially loved her family. She made the world a better place, a much better place, and she will be missed by many.
Tina is survived by her husband, Joe, of 15 years and their son Luke, of Lawler; father, Ron Michels of Decorah; mother, Bev Kerns of Decorah; her siblings, Bruce, Dan, Tammy and Alex.
She was preceded in death by her son, Lance, Jan. 6, 2011.
