Virginia A. Ludeking, age 91, of Decorah, died on Thursday, Dec. 9, 2021, at Aase Haugen Senior Services in Decorah.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at Salem United Church of Christ, rural Waukon.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Winneshiek County Home Health & Hospice, 901 Montgomery St, Decorah, IA 52101.
Virginia Ann Berger was born on Dec. 29, 1929 to Ben and Stella Berger of rural Waukon. She graduated from Waukon High School in 1947. On April 30, 1949 she married Jesslie Ludeking at the Presbyterian Church in Waukon. They made their home on the Ludeking family farm West of Waukon, where they lived and farmed for over 30 years. She worked as a housewife and also helped on the farm. Together they had seven children: Larry, David, Susan, Judy, Allen, George, and Ben. She taught Sunday school, was on the Salem Church Consistory, and a member of the Toastmistress Club in Waukon. In the 1980s she moved to the Washington D.C. area. After her time in D.C, she moved to Chatfield, Minn. She then moved to Ames for a number of years, and returned back to Northeast Iowa when her health started to fail. She loved to visit with people, play cards, and also enjoyed trivia games.
Virginia is survived by her seven children: Larry (Brian) of Tigard, Ore., David (Laurie) of Decorah, Susan of Decorah, Judy (Steve) Weatherly of Sioux City, Allen (Linda) of Decorah, George (Theresa) of Walford, and Ben (Lori) of Omaha, Neb.; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; her younger brother Gary (Jeanie) Berger of Waukon.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesslie Ludeking; by her parents: Ben and Stella Berger, and by six sisters and one brother.
