Walter H. Zeck, Jr., age 87, of Dorchester, formerly of Cedar Rapids, passed away at the Aase Haugen Senior Services in Decorah on Friday, Aug. 9, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
A visitation will be held on Friday, Aug.16, 2024, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids. A memorial service will be held at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories on Saturday, Aug. 17 at 10 a.m., with Pastor Don McGarvey officiating. A livestream of the service will be available on the Cedar Memorial website under Walter’s obituary under the video tab, starting on Saturday, Aug. 17, at 10 a.m. Inurnment to follow at the Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery-Garden of Tranquility.
Walter was born on June 24, 1937, in Holland, Ohio. He was the son of the late Walter and Ellen (Trumbull) Zeck, Sr. On Sept. 18, 1959, Walter married the love of his life Sondra “Sandy” McVicker in Toledo, Ohio. He worked as a mechanical/project engineer for several Nationally known corporations for over 40 years including Evergreen, formerly Cherry Burrell in Cedar Rapids. Walter and Sandy’s service to the Lord was to provide a loving home to those without through foster care. They passed their giving hearts to their children.
Those left to cherish Walter’s memory are his children, Ellen (Michael) Vance, of Dorchester, Walter Zeck, III, of Cedar Rapids, Joan (Michael) Brown, of Brandon, Robert (Jill) Zeck, of Cedar Rapids, James Zeck, of Calamus, and Linda Wheeler, of Las Vegas, Nev.; his 17 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren; his siblings, Kenneth (Pat) Zeck of Punta Gorda, Fla., Douglas (Janice) Zeck, Mary (Doug) Greb, and Judith Stockton, all from Woodland, Calif. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, parents-in-law, two brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law.
