Wayne A. Stevenson, 88, of Decorah, passed away very peacefully Wednesday morning, Nov. 22, 2017, at Patty Elwood Center in Cresco. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 27, at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah, with Pastor Doug Bryce officiating. Burial was in Phelps Cemetery in Decorah with full military honors by Decorah’s veterans and military organizations, and U.S. Army personnel. Visitation began at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 27, one hour before the service, at Fjelstul Funeral Home. Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah served the family. Wayne Alexander Stevenson was born March 27, 1929, in Cresco, the son of Charles and Ida (Anway) Stevenson. He graduated from Cresco High School and then enlisted in the U.S. Army. He trained in Germany, served in Korea and earned the rank of Master Sergeant. He then enrolled Iowa State University and earned an engineering degree.

Wayne was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Hackett in April 1956 in Sumner. They were blessed with two children, David and Lea Anne.

Wayne worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation as an engineer for 39 years. He was a long-time member of the Helof Holm V.F.W. Post No. 1977 in Decorah and was a past Commander of the Post, was a member of First United Methodist Church for many years and then attended Christian Life Center in Decorah.

Wayne was admitted into Patty Elwood Center in Cresco in October 2014.

Wayne is survived by his son, David Stevenson of Decorah; one sister, Loretta Leitz of Granger; and by many nieces and nephews.
