Wesley Frana, 90, of rural Decorah, died Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2020, at the Good Samaritan Society in Waukon. Mass of Christian Burial was at 11 a.m., Monday, Aug. 10, at the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville, with Rev. Robert Gross and Deacon Butch Stone presiding. Burial was in the church cemetery. Visitation was after 10 a.m. Monday morning at the church. In consideration of concerns regarding COVID-19, social distancing and wearing of masks was observed during funeral service. Lectors were Ashten Lienhard and Jackelyn Rubendall. Organist was Jeanette Dietzenbach.
Cantor was Dan Silhacek. Hymns were “Here I Am, Lord,” “Amazing Grace,” “On Eagle’s Wings,” “Going Home,” “How Great Thou Art” and “Waltz of the Angels.” Casket bearers were Wesley’s grandchildren. Interment was at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery, Spillville.
Wesley Stephen Frana was born Dec. 11, 1929, on the family farm north of Conover, to James R. and Adella (Shindelar) Frana. Wesley attended Winneshiek County country school. He married Beverly Britain. To this union three children were born: Leslie, Lonnie and Kim. He farmed the family farm all of his life. He enjoyed his trips to Ridgeway and Spillville to visit friends. Wesley enjoyed the outdoors, listening to polkas, and was fluent in the Czech language. Wesley was a lifetime member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic church.
Wesley is survived by his children: Leslie (Therese) Frana, Holmen, Wis.; Lonnie, Decorah; Kim (Wyatt) Hovey, Lime Springs; grandchildren: Ashten (Andy) Lienhard, Zachariah Frana, Jackelyn (Blake) Rubendall, Lee (Jamie) Lawson, Aliesha Hovey, Nick Frana; great-grandchildren: Brayden, Brinlee and Bodhi; sisters: Leona Whalen, Cresco; Marian Nobles, Bloomfield, N.M.; Arlene Brazier, Cedar Rapids; Doretta Frana, Madison, Wis.; Susan Durham, Calmar.
Wesley was preceded in death by his parents, James R. and Adella (Shindelar) Frana; brother, Alvin Frana; sisters: Lorraine Lockhart, JoAnne Frana, Madonna Haddy; brothers-in-law: Eddy Whalen, Bill Nobles, Bob Haddy, Jack Brazier, Tom Lockhart and John Durham.
