William “Bill” Roberson, age 64, of Decorah, passed away on Oct. 4, 2023, surrounded by his family at WinnMed in Decorah.
Visitation will be Thursday, Oct. 19, 2023, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Helms Funeral Home, 306 East Water St., Decorah, IA. Military rites will be held at 2 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Park in Decorah next to the funeral home with Rev. Culynn Curtis officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family. The family will make a donation in Bill’s memory to his favorite organizations.
William Thomas Roberson (Bill) was born on Oct. 4, 1959, the son of Thomas and Joan (Harms) Roberson in Oceanside, Calif. Bill graduated high school in Fallbrook, California in 1978. He attended a technical school in Phoenix, Ariz., for auto mechanics. Bill filled his time after high school and trade school, working on an oil barge in Alaska.
In 1980, Bill enlisted in the US Army and was stationed in Colorado Springs after attending bootcamp at Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo. While stationed in Colorado Springs, he met the love of his life, Lisa (Hill) Roberson. Bill and Lisa were married on May 24, 1986. After marriage, they moved to West Germany and were stationed at the Dexheim Army Base.
Bill and Lisa moved back to the United States in 1988 and began their life together in Northeast Iowa. Bill worked for Calmar Manufacturing from 1988 until 2006 when the family decided to open Culver’s of Decorah and spent the next 17 years working side by side.
Bill found pleasure in hiking, yard work, housework, tinkering on his tractors and yard equipment, spending time outside, traveling, honey-do lists and spending time with his family. Bill also loved to cook on his grill with beer and great music. Bill will be remembered for his quick wit and sense of humor. He had an infectious laugh, smile and was filled with nothing but love and kindness. He enjoyed every minute spent with his three children and three grandbabies.
Bill is survived by his wife Lisa (Hill) Roberson. His three children: Mackenzie (Roberson) Emanuel (Jesse), Chandler Roberson (Leah), and Peyton (Roberson) Casterton (Josiah). Three grandbabies: Sawyer and Griffin Emanuel, JR (Josiah Rowley) and two babies on the way- baby Roberson and baby Casterton. Sister: Sandra (Roberson) Meyer (Mike), many nieces and nephews and one BIG true blue Culver’s family.
Bill was preceded in death by his mother: Joan (Harms) Roberson and his father: Thomas F. Roberson.
Bill was loved by all and will be greatly missed.
