Wilma Sabelka

Wilma A. Sabelka, age 95, of New Hampton, passed away on Sunday, May 8, 2016 at New Hampton Nursing and Rehab with her family by her side.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at Holy Family Parish with Father Mark Osterhaus celebrating.  Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery in New Hampton.

Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 PM on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at Holy Family Parish in New Hampton with a 4:30 PM Rosary and a 6:30 PM Scriptural Wake Service.  Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the funeral mass on Thursday.  Online condolences for Wilma’s family may be left at www.conway-markhamfh.com.  Memorials may be directed to the family. 

Wilma A. Sabelka was born on May 23, 1920 to William and Christina (Soukup) Riehle in Spillville, Iowa. On January 22, 1940, Wilma was united in marriage to Ervin J. Sabelka at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville. She attended rural Winneshiek County schools and farmed with her husband near Reilly Ridge before the couple retired to NewHampton in 1988. The couple liked traveling by bus. Wilma enjoyed cross stitching, embroidery work and playing cards. She especially loved spending time with her family and friends. Wilma was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Hampton, St. Mary’s Choir and often volunteered at New Hampton Care Center. She was also a member of Catholic Daughters of America and the Rosary Society.

Wilma is survived by her one son, Joe (Mary Jo) Sabelka of Lawler, IA; three daughters, Leona (Florian) Steinlage of West Union, IA, Linda (Bob) Buckridge of Wentzville, MO and Laure (Bob) Rausch of Fort Atkinson, IA; one daughter-in-law, Norma Sabelka of Lawler, IA; 19 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Phyllis Mashek and numerous nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 72 years, Ervin J. Sabelka on December 17, 2012; one son, Bill Sabelka; two great-granddaughters, Haley and Hana Buchheit; her brothers, Conrad, Julius, Norbert and Oscar Riehle and her sisters, Mae Mashak, Alice Kuhn, Christina Lukes and Dorothy Hansen.
