Club 45 welcomes discussion

By Thomas Hansen, Decorah

In Don Fish’s recent letter, he states “we need to understand true history” but then spends his time spreading the same old falsehoods being used to try and rewrite the exceptionalism that is America.
First, contrary to his opinion, America’s search for independence was unique, as it was the first time a government was created that recognized people had Inalienable Rights derived from God and that the government derived its power from the consent of the people for the expressed purpose of securing those Rights. Furthermore, guns and war have been a necessity in maintaining our, and the world’s, liberty, which is different from his word, “freedom.” Freedom is the ability to do whatever you wish, which is tyranny, as opposed to liberty, which is freedom tempered by morality.
He also speaks of the “promises of Democracy” in America, which once again, is a falsehood and not what America was created as because our founders understood its history of failure. Democracy is the rule of the mob, without regard to the rights of the minority. Where 50.1% can trample on the rights and steal the property of the other 49.9%. What we have is a representative Republic, where the rights of the minority are protected by our Constitution.
Yes, Mr. Fish, “College, universities, and public schools are not for the elite,” but they are also not a place where elitists may indoctrinate our children with their socialist utopian agenda. “Where can we talk about it?” It’s called the Club 45 where we have been holding educational classes since the 2020 election, including events with Decorah School Superintendent and Mayor, which found their experiences both cordial and respectful. We would welcome a series of debates, on any subject you wish, to further benefit society. Contact us.
