Thank you for not spraying herbicides

Dear Editor,
Spring is finally here and dandelions are busting out to prove it once and for all.
I’ve been watching the lawns in our region for 40+ years and I’m here to report that more and more lawns at homes, churches, and businesses are dotted with them, showing that the word is getting out: spraying herbicide on lawns is toxic for humans, pets, birds, and insects. Thanks again to the folks whose lawns host these golden beauties, a bright signal that their lawns are safe and healthy. (Some folks who don’t spray but don’t care for dandelions simply dig them out, providing them with pleasant outdoor work. Hoorah for them as well!)
Have you ever tried batter-frying dandelion flowers? It’s an easy and fun way to celebrating spring. Make some batter, dip the flowers in, and fry them in oil or lard. Eat ‘em hot! You could also make a mayo-based sauce to dip them in.
