Monday was filled with great weather, an abundance of competition and a fine finish for the boys of the Northeast Iowa Conference as Decorah hosted the annual boys conference golf tournament at Oneota Golf & Country Club.
The Vikings completed the day in second place with a 337, behind Waverly-Shell Rock who tallied a 315.

Riveros second at NEIC meet

Continuing to improve in the game of golf, the Decorah girls golf team competed in the Northeast Iowa Conference girls tournament Monday, hosted by New Hampton. When the last card was turned in, the hosting Chickasaws won the meet with 352 over Waverly-Shell Rock at 357. The Vikings tallied a 414 to finish fifth.

Tight race for linksters at UIC

On a beautiful day for golf, it was a three-team dogfight for the title at the 2024 UIC Boys Golf Meet held Monday at the Guttenberg Golf and Country Club. The course was in great shape and the golfers took advantage of it.
MFL MarMac squeezed South Winn off the title by one stroke, finishing with 335. Turkey Valley was just three strokes back in third with 338. The Trojans shot a season-low 167 on the front nine and followed with a 171 on the back nine for a 338 total.

SW girls third, TV fourth UIC girls golf meet

Heavy overnight rains made the 18-hole course at Big Rock troublesome for golfers in the Upper Iowa Conference girls’ tournament Tuesday.
When the final ball dropped in the cup, MFL MarMac girls recorded a 395 to win the annual meet with North Fayette Valley the runner-up at 415. South Winn came through third with a 437, while Turkey Valley tallied a 446 to finish fourth.

Viking boys shut down Columbus, 9-0

Several days removed from when the Decorah boys tennis team had been set to compete at Columbus Catholic, the Vikings pulled off the 9-0 win Monday.
The Vikes came away with all of the set wins during the dual meet.

Rematch goes to NFV 3-0

In our only rematch game of the year the Decorah girls soccer team played very well but still came out on the short end of a 3-0 score line to North Fayette Valley Monday on the road.

Luther men, Fjelstul wins A-R-C

For the first time in school history, the Luther College mens golf team was crowned the American Rivers Conference champions for a third consecutive year. The 54-hole tournament was held at the Par 71 Glen Oakes Country Club in West Des Moines.

The postseason ramped up with the Upper Iowa Conference track and field meet hosted by South Winn Thursday. At the end of the night, it was the Warrior girls rising to the top of the team standings with 184.5 points. Turkey Valley finished with 69 points in fifth place.
For the boys it was MFL MarMac claiming the UIC title with 171 points. North Fayette Valley was the runner-up with 145, while South Winn was third with 144. The Trojans collected 33 points for eighth place.

Many things were in the athletes’ favor Thursday as the Decorah girls’ and boys’ track teams dominated the Charles City track at the Northeast Iowa Conference meet.
Combined with near perfect weather conditions, the Vikings snared both titles. The boys’ collected first with 194 points over Waverly-Shell Rock who came through with 137. For the girls, Decorah easily wrapped up the team title with 185 points with Crestwood finishing a distant second with 96.

Area athletes shine bright at SW Invite

Wrapping up the regular season, teams from northeast Iowa invaded Calmar Monday to compete in the South Winn Invite.
The hosts Warrior boys won the team title with 148 points over Charles City. The Decorah junior varsity took third with 111 points. With only handful of competitors, Turkey Valley tallied 40 points to take sixth.
It was Crestwood winning the girls’ title with 154 points over Charles City who had 121. South Winn claimed third with 114 with Decorah taking home fifth with 47 points followed by the Lady Trojans with 38.

Five in a row for Viking boys

Since the beginning of the North Central Conference tennis meet five years ago, no other team besides seventh-ranked Decorah has taken the title as the Vikings dominated the courts in Grinnell Monday.
With 48 points, Decorah edged No. 5 Waverly-Shell Rock for the conference title, to go with the crowning two singles and one doubles team champions.

Decorah boys take MFL MM title

With the team divided Monday, with some at South Winn and some at MFL MarMac, the Decorah boys’ track and field team shone bright, winning the Bulldog Invite with 212 points, well ahead of the hosts’ 138.
Decorah claimed gold in 14 of the 19 events.
