All-UIC softball list announced

A combined 11 athletes from South Winn and Turkey Valley softball teams were named to the Upper Iowa Conference all-league softball team, released recently.
South Winn had eight athletes while Turkey Valley had three recognized.

First team
Named to the first team were South Winn’s Addison Timp, Britney Hageman, Adrienne Winings and Alyssa Holthaus.
Hageman is the only veteran member of the All-UIC list, having been an honorable mention her freshman season and second team a year ago. The junior led the league in RBIs with 45 with a .340 batting average, connecting for 33 hits that included five home runs and six doubles.
Sophomore Addison Timp finished the UIC season with the second-best batting average at .515 and hits with 53, leading the Warriors in both categories as well. She drove in 14 and stole a conference-high 39 bases as the team’s lead-off batter.
In her inaugural season on varsity, Winings was the UIC’s and Warriors’ second best hitter with a .489 average to go with a .569 on-base percentage and .500 slugging mark. The junior knocked out 45 hits and drove in 16 runs, sitting second in steals in the conference only to teammate Timp with 33.
Holthaus stood at third base this season for South Winn and pounded out 31 hits in her 91 at-bats. Among those were three home runs, one triple and seven doubles as the she drove in 30 runs. She finished her sophomore campaign with a .341 hitting average, .464 on-base percentage and .538 slugging mark.

Second team
South Winn’s Avery Humpal and Aubree Gesing, along with Turkey Valley’s Morgan Vsetecka were named to the second team.
Behind the plate for the Warriors, Humpal earned her second straight honor on the UIC second team. The senior hit .289 with an on-base percentage of .383 and .478 slugging mark. Humpal connected for 26 hits including a pair of shots over the fence, one triple and a nine doubles to go with 28 RBI. From the catcher’s position she threw out nine base runners on steal attempts, third most in the conference.
Gesing, a southpaw freshman, led the Warriors to their second UIC title with 20 wins in the pitcher’s circle, the most in the conference. She struck out 147 batters, second-best in the league with a 3.47 ERA in her 161-1/3 innings of action in 34 games.
Trojan shortstop Morgan Vsetecka picks up her first All-UIC nod for the Trojans with a .282 average, .402 on-base percentage and .341 slugging mark.

Honorable mention
Two athletes from each team were recognized as being honorable mention.
For South Winn, Aubrey Willey and Izzy Kuboushek were chosen.
Willey could be found at second base throughout the season for the Warriors. In the senior’s 82 at-bats, she produced 23 hits, including one triple and one double, as well as 13 RBIs with a .280 batting average, .379 on-base percentage and .317 slugging mark.
Following an injury to a fellow Warrior, Izzy Kuboushek stepped into centerfield midseason for South Winn. The junior knocked out 17 hits, drove in 11 runs and stole nine bases during her junior season to earn her first conference nod.
Turkey Valley recognized sophomores Karstyn Lukes and Jenna Throndson, both first-time honorees.
Lukes had 71 at-bats that turned into 21 hits including one double and drove in 12 runs. She also made 12 appearances in the pitcher’s circle for the Trojans, finishing with a 2-4 record.
Throndson hit .279 for the Trojans and anchored second base this season, rapping out 19 hits including a pair of triples and two doubles to go with 10 RBIs.
