Another great step for Viking swim team

The Decorah swim and dive team faced stiff competition Saturday at the Cougar Invite, held at Cedar Rapids Kennedy.
The Vikes earned 121 points, taking sixth out of nine schools. Iowa City West took the title with 538 points.
Decorah’s best finish came from Brinley Krivachek in the one-meter diving competition. She finished sixth with 351 points.
Julia Alberts came home with a seventh-place finish in the 100-yard free in 57.95 seconds. The 400 free relay stopped the clock eighth in 4:00.09. Members of the relay included Maeley Nefzger, Katerina Kovarik, Emily Voyna and Alberts. Margaret Rhodes claimed a pair of ninth-place finishes in the 200-yard IM and 100-yard butterfly. The senior posted a time of 2:21.78 in the individual medley and 1:04.22 in the fly event.
Rounding out the top 10 was the 200 medley relay of Rhodes, Kovarik Voyna and Kylie O’Hara. The foursome combined for a time of 2:04.90 in 10th place. Nefzger also finished 10th in the 50-yard free in 27.28 seconds. The 200 free relay completed their laps in 1:50.53. Members of the relay were Nefzger, Rhodes, Voyna and Alberts.
Looking ahead, the Viking swim team will travel to Cedar Falls Saturday, Oct. 2, for an invite beginning at 9 a.m.
