Area harriers run at Frostbite Open

For the first time in nearly two years, harriers stepped on to a track to compete as teams from Decorah, South Winn and Turkey Valley competed Frostbite Open at Sumner-Fredericksburg Tuesday night.
In the girls’ team race it was Decorah claiming the title with 152 points. The Trojans finished the night with 74 points, good for fourth place followed by South Winn in fifth with 62 points.
Wapsie Valley claimed the top spot in the boys’ team standings with 113 points. South Winn wrapped up the night in fifth place, earning 74 points, while Turkey Valley claimed 27 points to finish eighth.

Lady Vikes
Just the Decorah girls competed at the Frostbite Open, claiming the top spot in nine events.
Individuals winning gold for the Vikes were Kallie Mincks in the 400-meter dash in 1:08.46, Rebecca Anderson in the 1500-meter run in 5:23.43, Kathryn Kelly in the 3000-meter run in 12:15.83 and Emma Nierengarten in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:14:83.
Five relays topped the rest of the field. A time of 53.48 seconds won the foursome of Dahlyn Headington, Brinley Krivachek, Anya Lovstuen and Lani Hubka the 4×100 title. Filling out the 4×200 line-up were Sydney Kipp, Kailyn O’Gara, Ada Lovelace and Brielle Buresh. Those four posted a winning time of 1:56.46. Pacing the 4×400 field in 4:36.89 were Sami Mount, Abby Bolson, Madison Tollefson and Sam See. Breaking the tape in the 4×800 relay was the quartet of Abby Halverson, Brynn Storhoff, Mya Numedahl and Danielle Losen in a time of 11:03.53. In the shuttle hurdle relay, it was Lani Hubka, Autumn Schaller, Elayna Hook and Leslie Campbell blazing the field in 1:17.49.
Krivachek came home with a runner-up finish in the 100-meter dash, cruising to the line in 14.07 seconds. Finishing in second and third in the 100-meter hurdles were Bella Knutson and Anya Lovstuen in 17.50 and 17.94 seconds, respectively. Chloe Reiser tossed the shot put 35 feet 3 inches for second place. Clearing the high jump bar at 4 feet 8 inches to claim bronze was Ashley Schneberger, while Olivia Mettille’s best leap of 13 feet 6.25 inches gave her third place in the long jump. Decorah also finished in third in the sprint medley in 2:03.93. Members of the team were Brittann Mettille, Cassie Wyatt, Grace Thompson and Ellie Luzum.

SW harriers
The South Winn girls had three individuals and one relay garner runner-up finishes.
 Billie Wagner crossed the finish line in 5:27.12 in the 1500-meter run, followed by teammate Megan Hageman in third in a time of 6:09.26. Senior Emmaleigh Ohrt sailed the discus 110 feet 6 inches to garner second. With a leap of 14 feet even, Emma Houdek claimed runner-up in the long jump.
The quartet of Becca Wagner, Eryn Sabelka, Josie Tieskoetter and Morgan Kriener were the runner-up in the 4×400, posting a time of 4:41.10. In the 4×200, Becca Wagner, Eryn Sabelka, Josie Tieskoetter and Alison Heying combined for a time of 2:03.11 to claim bronze. Joining forces in the 4×800 for third place were Tieskoetter, Sabelka, M. Hageman and Wagner in 11:06.89.
Isaiah Kruckman had the lone victory in the boys’ races, winning the 1600-meter run in 5:09.69. Teammate Chance Adam posted a time of 5:13.49 to earn third place.
Crossing the finish line second in the 200-meter dash was senior Jacob Herold in 24.24 seconds. In the 3200-meter run it was Ethan Maldonado stopping the clock at 11:59.09 in second place. Also earning silver was the 4×100 quartet of Zach Taylor, Cael Kuboushek, Sam Conway and Herold in 46.16 seconds. The 4×800 clocked in at 9:17.87. Members of the second-place team were Toby Conway, Kruckman, Omar Flores and Chance Adam.

Trojans on the track
The Lady Trojans had three events claim gold.
Jalyssa Blazek picked up three wins during the event, winning the 800-meter run in 2:35.00. The junior anchored both the sprint medley and distance medley relays for TV as well. Joining Blazek on the sprint medley were Kara Reicks, Clare Courtney and Josie Weber. The quartet combined for the winning time of 1:59.31. The foursome of Reicks, Olivia Snyder, Halle Weber and Blazek broke the tape in 4:45.80 in the distance medley for the win.
Jaycie Byrne has several stellar performances as well, finishing second in the 3000-meter run in 12:31.06 and third in the 200-meter dash in 33.69 seconds. Heaving the shot put 30 feet 5 inches to garner bronze was Aleah Hackman. The 4×400 relay of J. Weber, H. Weber, Byrne and Blazek came home in 4:46.63 in third. The shuttle hurdle quartet of Brianna Busta, Sophia Adams, Olivia Snyder and Kylie Wurzer stopped the clock at 1:25.24, good for third as well.
The distance medley quartet of Burke Busta, Calvin Bodensteiner, Kalvin Langreck and Ryan Franzen had the best finish for the TV boys, finishing runner-up in 4:10.28. Langreck also garnered points for the Trojans in the high jump, clearing 5 feet 10 inches to claim bronze. Crossing the finish line third in the 4×800 was the foursome of Dylan Reicks, Franzen, Bodensteiner and Langreck in a time of 9:29.05.

Next on the ovals
Decorah girls will be back in action Saturday, April 3, at the Cedar Rapids Jefferson invite at 10 a.m. The Warrior boys compete at Decorah Monday, April 5, at 4:30 p.m., while the SW girls return to competition Tuesday, April 6, at Jesup at 4:30 p.m. The Turkey Valley squads race Tuesday, April 6, with the girls running at Postville, while the boys are at Ed-Co, with both meets slated to begin at 4:30 p.m.
