With so many meets cancelled throughout the cold, wet season, the Turkey Valley girls’ track and field team snuck in two meets late last week, picking up a meet at MFL MarMac Thursday and at North Butler Friday. In both meets, the Trojans finished fifth in the team standings.

Getting one more in
It was a three-gold medal night for the Trojans at MFL MarMac Thursday as they collected 47 points. Waukon snagged the team title with 86 points.
The sprint medley relay was first to claim a title. It was Kara Reicks, Josie Weber, Olivia Snyder and Jalyssa Blazek joining forces for the gold in 1:59.66.
Blazek claimed the other two of the Trojans’ gold medals, winning the 100-meter dash and 1500-meter run. The senior sprinted to the finish in the shorter race in 13.59 seconds, then later showcased her range of running with a time of 5:12.65 in the 1500-meter race.
No field events were held due to wet conditions.

Friday’s achievements
The Trojans were back on the oval Friday at North Butler, finishing the night with 83 points and two gold medals. Winning the meet with 142 points was Jesup, followed by Nashua-Plainfield with 111 points.
Turkey Valley swept the individual distance races as Blazek was the first to cross the finish line in the 1500-meter run in 5:07.92. Fellow seniors Josie Weber and Cambree Kruse finished first and second in the 3000-meter run. J. Weber broke the tape in 12:57.02, while Kruse posted a time of 12:57.51.
Four other events earned silver Friday including Jacqlyn Schmitt in the discus (93’9”), Olivia Snyder in the 100-meter dash (14.16), Blazek in the 800-meter run (2:29.44) and the sprint medley relay of Kara Reicks, Clare Courtney, Snyder and Blazek (2:00.46).
