Playing two games in two days, the South Winn boys’ basketball team (10-8, 8-5 UIC) managed to put a pair of marks in the win column last week.

Punishing the Devils
While the Thursday’s contest was close early on with West Central (3-13, 2-10 UIC), South Winn managed to find a rhythm in the second half to win 84-55.
SW put itself out front 16-10 in the first period and continued to hold the lead at half, 34-23. It was the second half where the Warriors did the most damage outscoring the Blue Devils 50-37.
“We found our stride late in the second quarter and had a nice second half on the offensive end of the court. We probably gave up a few more points than I would like to see, but overall played well,” said Coach Derek Taylor.
Striking for 33 points and five rebounds in the contest was senior Trey Kriener. Dawson Wenthold was also hot with 19 points and three steals.

Two in a row
On the backside of the back-to-back road games Friday, the South Winn Warriors were short a player as they faced the other Warriors in the UIC in Central Elkader (1-15, 1-11 UIC). While Coach Taylor said his players were not as sharp as usual, SW still managed to secure the 50-31 win.
It was a slim lead for SW after the first eight minutes, 13-10. While SW managed to win each quarter, Central remained in striking distance as the final period began with a SW 38-27 advantage. The visitors managed to hold Central to four points in the final period to claim the win.
Kriener was once again the man of the night with a double-double of 22 points and 11 rebounds. Carson Wenthold provided nine points and three steals, while Streeter was in the stat book with nine points and nine boards.
