With a least eight different players scoring in each game, the Turkey Valley girls’ basketball team (5-10, 4-7 UIC) is putting together a squad that can get the job done despite dropping a non-conference battle Monday night.

On the road
Going out of conference action for a night, the Trojan girls dropped a contest to NEIC opponent Crestwood (5-10) Monday night, 68-43.
“We did some really good things,” said Coach Steve Hoffert. “We just need to value the basketball more.”
TV fell behind 20-8 in the first quarter. While the Trojans picked up the pace in the second, it was already too late to overcome the 41-24 lead the Cadets held at the break. The two squads each put up 16 points in the third with TV having a slow final period, scoring just three points.
Layni Schuchhardt led the team with 12 points, five assists and three steals. Mariah Throndson added 11 points, while Annika Bodensteiner put up 10 to go with seven rebounds. Addison Steinlage grabbed five boards and five steals.

Confidence booster
Tuesday night, the Trojans got a shot in the arm of confidence with a 56-17 win over West Central (1-14, 1-12 UIC) with 12 players scoring at least two points.
It was slow going in the first with TV scoring just a free throw in the first five minutes but came alive to lead 10-5. A 24-point second period propelled the Trojans to a 34-8 lead at the break. TV allowed nine points in the third and kept the Blue Devils from scoring in the fourth to win without panic.
Topping the charts with 13 points, seven rebounds and three steals was Steinlage. M. Throndson put up seven points with five boards, while Ellaney Bodensteiner provided six points and six rebounds.
