Basketball pairings released

Postseason pairing for Class 1A, 2A and 3A girls’ basketball teams, along with the boys Class 1A and 2A have been released.

Decorah girls, competing in Class 4A, and the boys in Class 3A will be released later this week.


Trojan, Kee girls

The Turkey Valley and Kee High girls are in Class 1A Region 3 and will open the postseason Thursday, Feb. 11, at 7 p.m. The Trojans will host Dunkerton in Jackson Junction, while the Hawks will be in action at Riceville. The quarterfinals are Tuesday, Feb. 16. The winner for the TV and Dunkerton contest will battle the victor of Central City and Don Bosco at Turkey Valley, while a Kee win would pit the Hawks against East Buchanan or Ed-Co in Riceville. The regional semifinals are Friday, Feb. 19, at 7 p.m., at Turkey Valley and Saint Ansgar, with the regional final set for Wednesday, Feb. 24, at 7 p.m., at a site yet to be determined. Other teams in the bracket include Wapsie Valley, Janesville, Nashua-Plainfield, Tripoli, Central Elkader and West Central.


SW, Postville, MFL MM

South Winn is in Class 2A, competing in Region 1, along with Postville and MFL MarMac. The Warriors battle Beckman Catholic in the first round in Dyersville Saturday, Feb. 13, at 7 p.m. Postville will be at Starmont for the first round, while MFL MarMac has a first-round bye. Quarterfinals are set for Tuesday, Feb. 16, at 7 p.m. If the Warriors win, they will play at Cascade. A Postville win would pit the Pirates against Maquoketa Valley on the road, while MFL MarMac will travel to take on Jesup on the J-Hawks’ home court. The regional semifinal is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 19, at either Maquoketa Valley or Cascade at 7 p.m., with the regional final set for Wednesday, Feb. 24, at 7 p.m. Other teams in the bracket are Sumner-Fred and Clayton Ridge.


Indians and TigerHawks

Playing in Class 3A Region 5 are Waukon and North Fayette Valley beginning Saturday, Feb. 13, at 7 p.m. Waukon will host Crestwood in the quarterfinals, while the TigerHawks host Independence. The regional semifinal is Wednesday, Feb. 17, at Waukon at 7 p.m. The regional final is Saturday, Feb. 20, at 7 p.m. Other teams in the bracket include Osage, Oelwein, Union and New Hampton.


Warrior, Trojan, Hawk boys

Postseason brackets are out for the South Winn, Turkey Valley and Kee High boys’ basketball teams. All three squads are in Class 1A District 6. 

The Warriors will open the postseason at home against Clayton Ridge Monday, Feb. 15, at 7 p.m. The winner goes on to face either Wapsie Valley, Central Elkader or Starmont in the semifinal at Wapsie Valley Thursday, Feb. 18, at 7 p.m. The district final will take place Tuesday, Feb. 23, at 7 p.m., with the substate at West Delaware Saturday, Feb. 27, at 7 p.m.

Turkey Valley and Kee High will square off in the district quarterfinal Monday, Feb. 15, in Jackson Junction at 7 p.m. The winner will advance to take on either Ed-Co or MFL MarMac in the district semifinal Thursday, Feb. 18, at Ed-Co, at 7 p.m., with the district final Tuesday, Feb. 23, at 7 p.m. 


NFV, Postville, Waukon boys

North Fayette Valley, Postville and Waukon are in Class 2A District 7 competing for the chance to go to state.

The TigerHawks and Pirates will square off in West Union Monday, Feb. 15, at 7 p.m. The winner of the contest will move on to face Waukon Thursday, Feb. 18, in Waukon at 7 p.m. in the district semifinal. The district final will be held at West Delaware in Manchester Tuesday, Feb. 23, at 7 p.m. Other teams in the bracket are Jesup, Oelwein and Beckman Catholic. The Class 2A Substate 4 game will take place Saturday, Feb. 27, for the chance to go to state.


State information

The girls’ state tournament runs Monday-Saturday, March 1-6, at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.

The boys’ state tournament runs Monday through Friday, March 8-12, also at Wells Fargo Arena.
