The South Winn baseball team (14-2, 11-0 UIC) maintained its perfect mark in the conference with a win over Clayton Ridge-Central (4-15, 3-9 UIC) on the road Tuesday.
Each squad plated a run in the first before the Warriors took control in the second with four more. The WarEagles managed to keep the game close with two in the bottom of the second as the teams were kept off the board until the sixth. It was there that South Winn put up four more and gave up two, leaving the Warriors with a 9-5 victory.
Braiden Todd picked up the win tossing four solid innings in relief. Brody Tieskoetter was the lone Warrior with multiple hits going 2-2 with an RBI.
“This wasn’t a great game for us in any facet, but our guys came up with some hits when they needed to and we settled in defensively as the game went along,” said Coach Alex Smith.
Warrior action continues Friday, June 16, at home versus Beckman Catholic with a junior varsity/varsity doubleheader at 5 p.m. Saturday, June 17, South Winn will play at Luther College against Decorah at 10 a.m., followed by a game versus Ottumwa. Next week, the Warriors will be at home in a varsity twinbill against Kee High Monday, June 19, at 5 p.m.
