Boys recognized as all-UIC

Nine local basketball players were named to the all-Upper Iowa Conference boys’ basketball teams.
South Winn had five representatives, while Turkey Valley had four.

First team
Two from each of the two teams received the first team nods.
Warriors Jacob Herold and Trey Kriener each earned their inaugural first team selections after a solid South Winn season.
Herold, a senior, was a second team honoree a year ago and moved up to first team this season after a 15.9 point per game average and a 45.0 field goal percentage. He shot 23.5 percent from beyond the three-point line and 60.7 percent from the charity stripe. Herold also provided 36 steals, 42 assists, along with 71 total rebounds (25 offensive, 46 defensive).
Kriener was second on the Warrior squad in field goals with 310 points, posting a team-best 57.0 field goal percentage. The junior topped the rebounding and blocks categories, coming down with 234 total boards (70 offensive, 164 defensive). He also dished out 45 assists and had 13 steals.
Representing Turkey Valley was senior Kalvin Langreck and junior Garrett Kurtenbach as first team honorees.
Many nights Langreck provided the offensive spark the Trojans needed with a 16.3 points a game average, hitting 42.5 of his field goal attempts to earn his first all-UIC nod. As the point guard, the senior dished out 75 assists to lead TV. Langreck also came away with 46 steals and 52 total rebounds (12 offensive, 40 defensive).
Moving up to first team after being named an honorable mention a season ago, Kurtenbach was active on the floor for the Trojans, hitting 31.1 percent from beyond the arc and 39.2 percent from the floor. The junior led the way under the basket with 145 total rebounds, collecting 40 offensive and 105 defensive boards. Kurtenbach was second on the team with 51 steals to go with 33 assists.

Second team
South Winn senior Collin Wiltgen garnered second team accolades. Wiltgen provided a spark with 8.8 points a game, third on the team. He hit 41.8 percent of his shots. He provided 5.7 rebounds a game, with 136 total boards (47 offensive, 89 defensive). Wiltgen dished out 33 assists and came away with 14 steals.

Honorable mention
Two Warriors and two Trojans were named honorable mention.
Senior Cael Kuboushek averaged 5.4 points a game, hitting 33.6 percent from the field. He was third on the team in steals with 36 and fourth in assists with 42. Kuboushek also came away with 71 rebounds during the season, with 25 offensive and 46 defensive.
Carson Wenthold earned his first all-conference honor as a sophomore starter for the Warriors, posting 6.1 points a game and a 44.6 field goal percentage. He led South Winn with 54 steals to go with 43 assists, while pulling down 66 rebounds (13 offensive, 53 defensive).
The TV sophomore duo of Noah Hanson and Calvin Bodensteiner were also honorable mention selections.
Hanson was the team’s leading thief with 55 steals and was second in assists, handing out 64. Hitting 41.3 percent of his field goal attempts, Hanson provided 7.6 points a game. He also had 30 offensive and 67 defensive rebounds for a total of 97.
Bodensteiner was third in both scoring and rebounding for the Trojans, averaging 9.7 points and 4.8 boards a game. The sophomore hauled in a total of 101 boards with 48 offensive and 53 defensive, to go with 28 steals and 25 assists.
