Cadets limit Warrior bats

By Becky Walz,

Playing at home for the first time in 2021, the South Winn softball team (0-2) hosted Crestwood (2-0) Friday night and struggled to get the offensive momentum in the 13-2 loss.
The Cadets jumped on the board early with three runs crossing home plate in the first inning. The Warriors plated two runs in the third, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the power of Crestwood who ended the game with seven tallies in the sixth inning.
Twirling the ball for five innings was SW junior Eryn Luzum while Morgan Kleve pitched one inning in relief.
Morgan Kriener pounded out a double for the only extra-base hit for South Winn. The Warriors had three other hits in the contest by Luzum, Avery Humpal and Kleve.
South Winn has two home games this week as Central Elkader paid a visit to Calmar Wednesday for an Upper Iowa Conference twinbill Wednesday, June 2. It will be a non-conference tussle Friday, June 4, as the Warriors host Waukon in a junior varsity/varsity doubleheader. SW is set for two games early next week as the Warrior take on Postville Monday, June 7 at 5:30 p.m., and travel to Nashua-Plainfield Tuesday, June 8, with the first pitch at 6 p.m.
