By Becky Walz,
Thirteen hits by the New Hampton baseball team (9-13, 6-7 NEIC) were too much for Turkey Valley (6-15, 6-8 UIC) to overcome Monday at home as the Trojans fell to the Chickasaws 15-4 in five innings.
Two homers got New Hampton off to a fast start and by the end of the first inning gave the Chickasaws a 4-0 advantage. NH added runs in each of the five frames and shut down the Trojan efforts in the third after TV scored three runs. TV’s Noah Hanson reached base on an error, stole second and scored on a Calvin Bodensteiner single. Garrett Kurtenbach put the exclamation point on the inning with a two-run shot over the right field fence to make it 7-3. The Trojans managed to plate a run by Caleb Kurtenbach in the bottom of the fourth inning, but it was too little too late for TV as New Hampton finished the game with six more tallies in the fifth.
Lone senior Kalvin Langreck was celebrated for his contribution and leadership on and off the field. He also shouldered the loss as he gave up eight runs on nine hits. In relief it was Chase Hayek and Oliver Schmitt on the mound.
Offensively, the Trojans tallied five hits, with G. Kurtenbach having a multi-hit game with a home run and single. Also tagging the ball for singles were Hanson, Dylan Reicks, Bodensteiner and C. Kurtenbach.
More to come
Wednesday the Trojans were at Dike-New Hartford and keep with the road theme tonight (Thursday, July 1) as they travel to New Albin to face Kee High in a junior varsity/varsity doubleheader at 5:30 p.m. TV will be at Riceville Friday, July 2 at 5 p.m., before the holiday weekend.
