Clean sweep for Decorah

By Becky Walz,

The Decorah softball team (10-5, 7-2 NEIC) is putting together a strong middle part of the season, picking up two wins over Oelwein (5-8, 2-6 NEIC at home Monday.
In the first contest, the Vikings won 4-0. Decorah plated the first runs of the game in the opening frame. After the Vikes plated a run in the fourth, the Huskies threatened to score in the top of the fifth. With two outs, Oelwein loaded the bases, however, Viking pitcher Avery Shelton managed to catch a Husky batter swinging to retire the side. Decorah added a run in the fifth to finish the scoring in the contest.
Shelton went the distance on the mound, giving up four hits.
It was the Vikings taking control in the nightcap with two runs scored in the first, seven in the second and three in the third to shut down the contest after four frames.
Decorah hosted New Hampton Wednesday night and will be on the road Thursday, June 17, at Waverly-Shell Rock for a varsity doubleheader at 5:30 p.m.
