The Turkey Valley baseball team (13-12, 11-6 UIC) took on Postville (0-17, 0-17 UIC) for the final conference doubleheader of the season Monday with both games won handily by the Trojans.
In the first game, the Trojans held a one run lead at the end of the first inning. At the end of the second inning, TV had increased their lead to three runs. Over the course of the next five innings, the Trojans scored another 10 runs. Most of the runs were scored in the fourth and seventh innings, with four runs being scored in each inning. Over the course of the same seven innings, the Pirates were unable to score a single run, resulting in a 13-0 victory for the Trojans.
Noah Hanson pitched a complete game shutout, racking up 10 strikeouts. Treyton Hulbert led the team on offense with three hits.
In game two, TV held a three-run lead at the end of the first inning. At the top of the third, Turkey Valley added another two runs, giving them a 5-0 lead over the Pirates. At the top of the fourth inning, TV went on a tear, scoring 10 runs. Postville scored its first runs of the year at the bottom of the same inning, crossing the plate five times. TV ended up scoring two more runs at the top of the fifth inning, giving them a 12-run lead. The Pirates were unable to score at the bottom of the fifth inning, giving the Trojans a 17-5 victory by virtue of the mercy rule.
Logan Busta was awarded the victory after coming in as a relief pitcher in the second inning. Calvin Bodensteiner led the Trojans’ offense with two hits.
