Decorah bats explode against MFL

There are more tallies in the win column for the Decorah softball team (5-0, 2-0 NEIC) after the Lady Vikes overwhelmed MFL MarMac on the road Friday, then defeated New Hampton Tuesday at home.

There are more tallies in the win column for the Decorah softball team (5-0, 2-0 NEIC) after the Lady Vikes overwhelmed MFL MarMac on the road Friday, then defeated New Hampton Tuesday at home.

NEIC action
Playing once again on their home diamond, the Vikings hosted New Hampton (1-3, 0-2 NEIC), claiming two victories in Northeast Iowa Conference action, 5-1 and 2-1.

14-run inning
It was an eruption of offense for the Decorah softball team (3-0) Friday night as the Vikes took care of MFL MarMac (0-2) on the road, 22-2.
The game started with a quiet 3-0 lead in the first two innings with Decorah scoring twice in the opening frame and again in the second. The ball got rolling with five runs in the fifth before the Vikes went through the line-up in the sixth inning for 14 runs, putting the game away.
Clara Hjelle struck out nine batters in her six innings of work, giving up two runs on two hits.
Bryar Duwe had two of Decorah’s 11 hits including a home run and triple for three RBI. Lani Hubka and Maiha Quandahl had two singles apiece, while Autumn Schaller, Lauren Luzum, Lillian Olson, Lydia Frank and Sydney Kipp all rapped out a hit. 

Up next
Decorah will play at Waukon Thursday, June 2, at 7:30 p.m., and compete in a tournament at Marion Saturday, June 4, at 10 a.m.
