Decorah bests TigerHawks

It was almost a case of déjà vu between the Decorah girls soccer team and North Fayette Valley (1-9) with the Vikings (4-8) conquering the TigerHawks, 2-1, at home Monday.
The Vikes scored two goals in the first half, then proceeded to give NFV hope by allowing them a goal in the second. The two goals in the first half were scored by Kylie O’Hara within three minutes of each other, both on nice assists by Sara Johanningmeier, who gave O’Hara excellent passes through the defense she could run on to.
“I’m thankful the rest of the game went scoreless.  Our defense held up and our offense kept the ball enough to deny NFV many other opportunities,” said Coach Loren Hendrickson. “We had several other chances to score in both halves but either squandered them or made bad decisions with the ball when we could have done much better.  It’s nice we were able to get closer to goal.  Now we need to take the next step and finish more of those chances if we hope to advance in the playoffs later this month.”
Decorah finishes the regular season at home Friday, May 12, against West Delaware at 5 p.m., and will play the West Delaware Hawks again to open Class 1A Region 8 postseason play Monday, May 15, at home 5 p.m. If the Vikes win, they will play Hudson on the Pirates’ home pitch Wednesday, May 17, at 5:30 p.m.
