By Becky Walz,

In the first meet of the season the Decorah boys’ golf team fired a combined 109 to best Charles City’s 203 Tuesday at Silvercrest Golf and Country Club.
“We had pretty consistent scoring with the playing conditions being tough and it being our first meet,” said Coach Rich Gaard.
Charles City’s Trevor White carded the best score of the meet with a 44 to earn medalist honors, one stroke ahead of Ethan Holthaus of Decorah (45).
Carving out a 48 for the Vikings was Jackson Knoke, followed by a pair of 49s by Ben Bockman and Lane Rolfs. Other varsity linksters for Decorah were Baylor Bohr (52) and Jon Egan (56).
The Viking junior varsity also defeated Charles City, 209-247. Leading the way for Decorah was Shook Patel with a 49. Also, on the course for the Vikes were Gavin Stortz (53), Brody Hanson (53), Casey Brinkley (54), Cale Donlon (58) and Alex McGohan (63).
Decorah will be hitting the links today (Thursday, April 15) at 1 p.m. as it hosts the Viking Invite and Oneota Golf and Country Club.
