Decorah boys put up strong effort

By Becky Walz,

Although the Decorah boys’ basketball team (5-4, 3-2 NEIC) played well as a team, it didn’t translate into a win as the Vikings fell to Waverly-Shell Rock (5-3, 4-0 NEIC) on the road Friday night, 79058
Decorah fell behind 18-11 after the first quarter and matched the Go-Hawks point-for-point in the second as both teams sank 24 points to make it 42-35 at halftime. W-SR stretched its lead by two in the third before going on a fourth-quarter run for the win.
Ben Bockman led the way with 17 points and seven rebounds. Also in the double figures was Matthew Bockman with 10 points, four rebounds, five assists and three steals. Tate Johnson chipped in eight points, while Andrew Rhodes pulled down eight rebounds.
The Vikings had a non-conference game at MFL MarMac Monday, Jan. 9. Game information was unavailable at press time and will be provided in the Thursday, Jan. 12, Public Opinion. Decorah hosts Charles City Friday, Jan. 13, at 8 p.m., and welcomes Dubuque Wahlert Saturday, Jan. 14, at 5:30 p.m.
