The Decorah boys’ soccer team (6-2) put another notch in the win column Monday as the Vikes shut out Dubuque Wahlert (3-6) at home 3-0.
Leading scoring for the Vikes in the first minute of play was senior Ryan Johanningmeier on an unassisted goal.
Scoring in the second half were senior Arlo Hayes assisted by senior Adrian Huang, and sophomore Jeramiah Rediske scoring off throw-in by Isaac Cooper.
Keeping a clean sheet for the Vikes was senior Brayden Reiser, recording his fifth shutout of the season. Reiser has combined with the solid defense of seniors Brody Young, Drew Berns, Zack Jermier, Garrick Smith, Drew White, Dylan Muhlbauer and Issac Cooper to have only allowed two goals in the last 560+ minutes of play.
“We’re so proud of how the boys are playing. They’re learning and growing every match, and doing what we ask them to do as a coaching staff,” said coach Julie Simiele. “Our midfield of Jake Magner, junior, and seniors Larsson Shockey and Adrian Huang helped dominate the flow of the game by controlling the game’s pace and the middle of the field. We cannot wait to see what else the boys are capable of.”
Decorah will be at Waverly-Shell Rock Saturday, May 7, for a tournament beginning at 9 a.m. Next week, the Vikes start with a road game at Clayton Ridge Monday, May 9, at 5 p.m.
