By Becky Walz,
A slow start on the road was too much for the Decorah girls’ basketball team (11-8, 8-4 NEIC) to overcome Thursday night as the Vikes fell to MFL MarMac (15-6, 12-4 UIC) in Monona, 69-54.
Decorah put up just seven points in the first quarter to trail 23-7. Although the Bulldogs added just eight points in the second quarter, the Vikes weren’t able to cut into the lead much, making it 31-20 at the half. MFL MarMac maintained a healthy advantage in the third period. Decorah’s 23-point fourth period was too little, too late to scrape away at the lead during the final frame.
Bryar Duwe led the Vikes with 17 points. Haley Gossman had 12 points, while Kylie O’Hara knocked down 10. In the scorebook with nine points was senior Emma Nierengarten. Abigail Milburn had four points and Sami Mount chipped in two.
