Decorah girls fall to 0-2

By Becky Walz,

It was a close finish for the Class 4A No. 13 Decorah girls basketball team (0-2, 0-0 NEIC) as the Vikes fell to another ranked team Tuesday in non-conference action. Hosting Class 3A No. 5 Dubuque Wahlert (1-0), the comeback fell a little short for the Vikings, dropping the contest 70-65.
“I think we have played well against back-to-back ranked teams,” said Coach Shannon Quandahl. “We still have a lot to learn, but these games will make us better.”
The visitors held the Red and Blue to seven points in the opening period, taking a 15-7 lead. By halftime, Decorah had cut the deficit to two, trailing 31-29 at the break. Both squads dropped in 20 points in the third quarter with Wahlert closing the door in the fourth.
With 26 points, Yazmeen Whitsitt led the offensive charge for the Vikes. Two others were in double figures, including Claire Storhoff with 17 and Brooklyn Fromm with 16. Gabbi Dixon and Brynn Storhoff contributed three each.
Decorah will host another non-conference game Saturday, Dec. 2, against Center Point-Urbana at 1:30 p.m.

Scoring – Yazmeen Whitsitt 26; Claire Storhoff 17; Brooklyn Fromm 16; Gabbi Dixon 3; Brynn Storhoff 3
