Decorah girls put the ball in the net twice for win

After playing four games in the last four days, plus playing in heat and humidity for the first time, the toll had been taken on the Decorah girls’ soccer team. After playing four games in the last four days, plus playing in heat and humidity for the first time, the toll had been taken on the Decorah girls’ soccer team. However, mental toughness and endurance by the Vikes put together a late charge for the 2-0 win over North Fayette Valley in Elgin Monday night.
Playing with a strong wind in the first half, Decorah couldn’t seem to put anything together.
“Honestly, I think NFV had the better chances at goal. Our defense held them at bay well enough to get us to half time 0-0,” said Coach Loren Hendrickson.
The second half began in a similar fashion. Following the second half’s water break midway through, the Vikings seemed to catch fire a little bit, scoring on a Sara Johanningmeier shot from about 10 yards away. A few minutes later, Kylie O’Hara refused to give up on a scramble for a loose ball in front of the net, opportunistically tapping home the final goal of the game.
Decorah has two final regular season games remaining. The Vikes will be at West Delaware tonight (Thursday, May 16) at 4 p.m., and will be at Denver Monday, May 16, at 5 p.m.
