Decorah grapplers tame Huskies

In a match that had been delayed several times, the Decorah wrestling team got on the mats Tuesday at Oelwein, defeating the Huskies 53-27.

Decorah picked up eight victories and one forfeit.

Sophomore Brady Stille kicked off the competition by throwing Nolan Lamphier in 2:28 at 132 pounds. Ben Wymer (152) also picked up a pin, putting Thyron Mathews on his back in 31 seconds, followed by Garrett Lovstuen’s pin of Logan Cockerham in 1:41 at 160 pounds. Keeping the falls coming, Keenan Tyler (170) put Colton Roete’s shoulders on the mat in 1:33. 

At 195 pounds, Nate Rolfs made short work of pinning Johnny Buehler, needing just 24 seconds. Freshman Kollin Henry picked up a fall in 1:56 over Kale Berinobis at 106 pounds. After 5:54, Daniel See (113) earned the win by pinning Aden Yearous. Capping off the night with the Vikings eighth pin of the night was Lane Rolfs at 126 pounds. The sophomore threw Gavin Emery in 1:17.

Earning the lone forfeit was Class 2A No. 5 Jackson Rolfs at 145 pounds.

The Viking grapplers will be in action tonight (Thursday, Jan. 21) at Crestwood starting with the girls and junior varsity at 6:15 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, Decorah will participate in a tournament at Center Point-Urbana at 9 a.m.
