As the boys went 10-0 and the girls 9-1 in duals, the Decorah bowling teams both finish at the top of the conference standings after defeating New Hampton Tuesday at Kingpin Entertainment Center.
In boys’ action, the Vikes bested the Chickasaws 2,850 to 2,604. Baker games were 227, 183, 181, 190 and 172.
As the boys went 10-0 and the girls 9-1 in duals, the Decorah bowling teams both finish at the top of the conference standings after defeating New Hampton Tuesday at Kingpin Entertainment Center.
In boys’ action, the Vikes bested the Chickasaws 2,850 to 2,604. Baker games were 227, 183, 181, 190 and 172.
Individually it was senior Daniel Skrade leading Decorah with games of 211 and 201, with another senior, Easton Luzum, close behind with games of 193 and 202. Other varsity keglers included Grady Brauer (208, 202), Will Marx (160, 205), Benson Newhouse (159, 156), Thomas Esslemont (178) and Nathaniel Myers (145).
“The boys stepped up and beat a solid New Hampton squad that came ready to bowl. The individual games were solid but not amazing,” said Coach Keith Bruening.
With the best finish in program history, the girls defeated New Hampton 2,315 to 1,105. Baker games were 157, 171, 175, 189 and 130.
Senior Rebecca Bruening was in top form with games of 181 and 147 to lead Decorah, followed by Lily Iverson with games of 182 and 138. Also on the lanes in varsity action for the Lady Vikes were Hailey Bower (117, 136), Chloe Chyle (170, 109), Sydney Hageman (128, 123) and Hannah Schnitzler (175, 138).
“The girls did a nice job as we bowled all the seniors on senior night and they all stepped up. I am so proud of this group. All season the girls worked hard and it has paid off,” said Coach Bruening.
In junior varsity action, the Viking boys also won 2,489 to 1,940, with Shane Treangen (395) and Bryce Elsbernd (369) leading the way. The JV girls were also victorious with Annika Grinna (342), Karlie Einck (338) and Marri Feuerhelm (303 leading the way.
Decorah will be at the conference individual tournament Thursday, Feb. 9, at Cadillac Lanes in Waterloo beginning at 9 a.m. The postseason will kick off Monday, Feb. 13. For more information on the state-qualifying meets, see separate article on postseason information for all sports.
