For the second time this season, the Decorah bowling teams left Panther Lanes in Tripoli victorious. In December the Vikes bested Denver, Monday it was Tripoli.
The varsity girls won 2,474 to 1,858 to move to 6-0. Baker scores were 137, 171, 191, 169 and 148.
Coming through with games of 202 and 157 to lead the Vikes was sophomore Marri Feuerhelm, followed by senior captain Anika Grinna with 135 and 223 games. Jasera Tweten was consistent with a 178 and 160. Other scores were Karlie Einck (154, 160), Naomi Pedlar (141, 141) and Addison Wicklund (180, 109).
“Tripoli is always a tough place to score and I thought the girls bowled well,” said Coach Keith Bruening. “A few more shots go our way and we would have shot a 2,550.”
It was a solid night for the varsity boys squad as well, coming away with the victory 2,928 to 2,068. Baker scores were 208, 177, 162, 215 and 244.
Brock Christensen had a good night with a 181 and 223. Not far behind was TJ Round (204, 191) and Jordan Sims (209, 186). Also on the lanes for the varsity boys were Cade Averhoff (204, 179), Cain Monreal-Rice (135, 190) and Tyler Novak (183, 162).
“The boys were a little flat as Tripoli didn’t offer much competition so it was hard for us to keep our edge,” noted Coach K. Bruening. “Overall it was a good match despite bowling a sub-par first round of 1,922.”
It will be senior night for the Vikings Friday, Jan. 19, as Decorah hosts Forest City at Kingpin Entertainment Center at 4 p.m.
