Getting back in the win column, the Decorah boys’ and girls’ bowling teams defeated North Iowa on the road Friday night.
Improving their record to 7-2, the girls defeated North Iowa 2,367 to 1,773. Baker game scores were 111, 180, 125, 113 and 144.
At the front of the pack with games of 220 and 201 was junior Rebecca Bruening, along with Lily Iverson (158, 171). Other varsity bowlers for the Vikes include Grace Gerleman (153, 169), Paige Lange (153, 167), Sydney Hageman (151, 151) and Hannah Schnitzler (140, 148).
“The girls did what they had to in order to get a win,” said Coach Keith Bruening. “We need to be more consistent on our spares, but we are getting better with every meet. We just need to make the right adjustments to the lanes.”
The JV girls also won and remain undefeated at 9-0, led by sophomore Anika Grinna (326) and junior Hailey Bower (252).
By defeating North Iowa 2,788 to 2,630, the Decorah boys moved their record to 6-3. Scores of the baker games were 205, 154, 184, 243 and 181.
Will Marx provided the high games of the night for the Vikes at 248 and 170, along with Gavin Sims with a 209 and 182. Additional keglers on the lanes were Daniel Skrade (178, 173), Grady Brauer (177, 170), Brody Anfinson (159, 155) and Cade Averhoff (147, 149).
JV boys continued their win streak to move to 9-0. They were led by freshman Jordan Sims (337) and sophomore Brock Christen (319).
The Vikings will be at Waverly-Shell Rock tonight (Tuesday, Feb. 1) at 3:45 p.m., then turn around and compete in the conference tournament Wednesday, Feb. 2, at Cadillac Lanes in Waterloo hosted by Columbus Catholic. The conference day is set to begin at 10 a.m.
