Decorah keglers to send three to state

Three bowlers will represent the Decorah bowling program at state Wednesday, Feb. 23, after finishing in the top eight at Tuesday’s state qualifying meet at May City Bowl in Cedar Rapids. Preparing for the big stage at Maple Lanes in Waterloo are Grace Gerleman, Rebecca Bruening and Will Marx.

As a team, the girls finished fourth with a 2,456 pin total. Completing 15 baker games, scores were 179, 139, 142, 191, 178, 126, 146, 138, 163, 181, 178, 182, 174, 191 and 148.
A senior co-captain, Gerleman ended the day in seventh with a 561 three-game series (170, 128, 263), while Bruening, a junior, was eighth with a 552 total (191, 171, 190). Others competing for the Vikings were Sydney Hageman (154, 177, 171), Lily Iverson (129, 144, 155), Paige Lange (160, 158, 171) and Hannah Schnitzler (126, 215, 192).
In the boys’ race, Decorah finished sixth with a total of 2,669. Baker game scores were 174, 175, 194, 189, 179, 159, 179, 178, 156, 131, 193, 174, 216, 162 and 210.
Marx, a junior, slid into the eighth and final qualifying position with a 636 total in his three games (180, 245, 211). Seniors Brody Anfinson and Gavin Sims concluded their high school careers on the lanes with Anfinson having games of 174, 191 and 174, while Sims had games of 154, 160 and 146. Also competing for the Vikings were Cade Averhoff (183, 157, 175), Easton Luzum (143, 150, 210) and Daniel Skrade (136, 157, 206).
