Decorah netters survive Viroqua and weather

Decorah boys’ tennis team welcomed Viroqua to town for another rainy match, which ultimately was taken inside at Luther College Friday night, ultimately winning 9-0.
“What a blessing to have that facility and get access, we are grateful for that opportunity. Viroqua brought a strong team and came to play, but Decorah matched their energy early and fought to a tough 9-0 win,” said Coach Matt Anderson.

The match of the day came from Daniel Skrade whose opponent fought back from early deficits to earn three match points in a final set tiebreaker only to see the junior play his best tennis in winning the last five points. In those final points Skrade hit two aces, a back hand winner and forced two errors to come roaring back after a physically exhausting battle.
Coach Anderson commented, “This is exactly the type of match our guys needed to prepare for conference on Monday and boy did they bring energy and fight — what a great atmosphere with parents and students in a larger than normal crowd cheering the team on.”
Monday the Vikings competed in the conference tournament and tonight (Tuesday, May 3) hosts Waverly-Shell Rock at 4:30 p.m. Decorah will be at Columbus Catholic Thursday, May 5, at 4 p.m., and Onalaska Saturday, May 7, at 9:30 a.m.
