Decorah represents Winn. Co. at Drake Relays

The Decorah girls’ and boys’ track teams represented the county at the Drake Relays, held in Des Moines Thursday through Saturday, April 28-30.

Haywood Stowe and Chloe Reiser started the weekend’s competition Thursday in the long jump and shot put. Stowe was among the participants in the long jump, finishing 18th with a leap of 20 feet 8 inches. Reiser scratched on her three throws in the shot put and did not record any distance.
Friday’s competition included Decorah’s best finish of the weekend by Joseph Hjelle in the shot put. The senior sent the weight 50 feet 1.25 inches, good for 12th place. With a heave of 60 feet 5.75 inches Austin Busch of South Hamilton won the event.
Julia Alberts earned 13th place in the discus with a throw of 116 feet 7 inches. English Valley sophomore Kennedy Axmear had the winning throw of 131 feet 6 inches.
Also Friday, Brielle Buresh, Hayley Stowe, Sami Mount and Lani Hubka competed in the 4×200. They garnered 18th out of 24 in 1:47.57. The winning team was Waukee NW in 1:42.18.
Senior Brielle Buresh was among the field of 31 in the 100-meter dash. She concluded the race in 28th place, having sprinted down the track in 13.30 seconds.
Of the 96 teams competing in the girls 4×100 relay race, Decorah came home in 21st place in 50.54 seconds. Members of the relay were Buresh, Hubka, Stowe and Brinley Krivachek. ADM Adel posted the winning time of 48.48 seconds in the finals.
Addae Whitsitt, Ben Wymer, Jacob Pipho and Stowe raced around the track in 43.78 seconds in the 4×100, finished 18th in the 96-team field. SW Polk set a new Drake Relays record in 42.00 seconds.
